[IONIA] 02. How to access the Ionia GlobCover data products?

STEP 1: Register

To access the GlobCover data products, you need to be registered user (register here).

STEP 2: Install a BitTorrent Client on your computer

The Data download is performed using the BitTorrent protocol (Check the FAQ for more information about the BitTorrent).
You need to install a BitTorrent Client on your computer to be able to download data from this Site.
The recommended Client is Azureus, you can download it from the Azureus Download Page.

STEP 3: Select the data you want to download

Three Interfaces are available to select the GlobCover data (via the Access Data Menu), you can:

Select and download subsets of GlobCover Products using geographical and time parameters (GlobCover 20x20 degrees Tile Product Download);
Select and download sets of GlobCover Tiles covering Continental Areas using time parameters (GlobCover Continental Product Download);
Select and download Full (world coverage) GlobCover Products (GlobCover Full Global Product Download).

The selection is performed pressing the [Query] Button (you can make several selections during the same session).

As a result of your selection you will download on your computer (by pressing the [Download] button) Torrent Files like the one below:

MACRO_4x4_GLOBCOVER-L3_MOSAIC_2005_V1.0.1_BIMONTH_3_H08_V02.torrent

or set of Torrent Files zipped (for the Continental and Full products), like the one below:

MACRO_CONTINENT_GLOBCOVER-L3_MOSAIC_2005_V1.0.1_BIMONTH_3_EUROPE_TORRENTS.zip

These Torrent Files are not GlobCover Data but they are used by your BitTorrent Client to perform the actual GlobCover data download.

STEP 4: Download the GlobCover data on your computer

The zipped set of Torrent Files (TORRENTS.zip extension) must be first unzipped (this will create a directory containing a set of Torrent Files).
To start the actual GlobCover Data download, you just need to open the Torrent Files with your BitTorrent Client.
The GlobCover Data will be stored on your computer as defined in the configuration of your BitTorrent Client (by default at the same level of the Torrent File)

You can also configure your Web Browser to open automatically the torrent files with your BitTorrent Client (Check your Web Browser documentation: Generally in File Type management section).

Note:

the GlobCover Tiles are zipped (unzipped size = 130 MBytes).
One MACRO_4x4 contains up to 16 GlobCover Tiles.
